Irish Hills

This little 6x6 abstracted landscape started out as one of my "effortless abstracts" done with a foam plate.  They usually don't turn out this "landscapy". 
I was pleased with the swirled look of the sky in shades of blue and white.

This is for the lovers of green.  It doesn't show up a lot in my work, but I like it.  This was a demo painting I did for a class in Littleton last week.

Here, the compliment (red-orange) is the highlight on a predominantly green painting.  Usually for me, it's the other way around.

Quiet Pond, 10109, daily painter original oil landscape, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

The palette for so much of my work is in the warm tones, it was fun diving into this calm, cool, and serene world of blue and green.
I think I would like to be paddling in a canoe or kayak on this pond. You can almost hear the birds twittering in the trees.

SUNFLOWERS 2, 02308, 6x6 oil painting of sunflower bouquet

A friend came over and saw this painting sitting on it's little easel and thought it was so attractive. I think that displaying these 6x6 paintings on their own miniature easel is a great way to show them. They attract more attention when used as a small decorative accent than when hanging on a wall.

Face 6, Oil Portrait in Fauvist Style

Another fauvist style portrait. I think I will probably do about a dozen in this series. I am learning more about rendering the human face with each painting. I doubt any one would want to purchase one of these, but when you see them all as a group, they're certainly a colorful bunch.

A New Day, 16x20 original impasto oil painting of a farm

This bucolic scene was photographed on my recent trip to Minnesota. The farms there are so beautiful and many look like a painting waiting to happen. I wanted to do an abstracted foreground - 2/3 of the painting, actually - using a palette knife with lots of paint. The texture you get with a knife cannot be obtained in any other way. I also wanted a painting with lots of different shades of green. I think the painting is successful in those objectives.

Minnesota in summer

I got back from my reunion in MN. What a great time we had! Being used to semi-arid Colorado, you forget what rain and humidity do to the environment: GREEN. Here's a couple pictures I took that may end up as paintings. The grass was up to the cows' bellies and the corn was well on it's way to being "knee-high by the fourth of July".

Stoplight Peppers, 12x12 oil

You're pushing your cart through the produce section and there they are: a colorful blaze of satin-skinned beauties. There's probably not an artist in the world who hasn't been tempted in the produce section by these colorful peppers. Here's my version. I painted them, then I ate them. Win-win. 12x12 gallery wrap canvas.

Still Life Studies of My Stuff: Blue and Green Vases

I realized that if I only paint my stuff, I will never get to paint anything in the cool end of the palette. So I picked up theses two vases at a thrift store. Their sparkling blue and green colors actually complement my terracotta kitchen very well.
They remind me of some beautiful ocean colors I've seen that are a very long way from Colorado.
