Ensemble, 03808, revised, 24x24 original oil

Sometimes I have to live with a painting for a while before I know what's wrong with it. Today's painting is a case in point. I originally posted this on May 4th of this year (you can scroll down and see the original version). I never got around to varnishing is because I knew, deep down, it might need revisings.
All I added was another flower in the middle, toned down the edges on the purple verticle stripes, and added some drips. The composition is stronger in this version and I'm ready to varnish it now.

Still Life Studies of My Stuff: Blue and Green Vases

Ocean Colored Vases
I realized that if I only paint my stuff, I will never get to paint anything in the cool end of the palette. So I picked up theses two vases at a thrift store. Their sparkling blue and green colors actually complement my terracotta kitchen very well.
They remind me of some beautiful ocean colors I've seen that are a very long way from Colorado.

Still Life Studies of My Stuff: Cream & Sugar 2

red, glass, dishes
This creamer and sugar bowl was given to my mother as a wedding present, so I remember it vividly from my childhood. What always fascinated me about it was the color intensity of the red glass. It is just a vivid today as it was the day it was given.
