Mixed Media Art Painting "Relic" by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

This is another in my rust series.  In addition to the rusted iron paint used throughout the piece, there is mica flake on the two horizontal bars, and a flattened, rusted Snapple bottle cap that I ran over with my car  in the lower left.  The other rounded shapes in the lower section are actually indentations in the substrate, which is extruded polystyrene.   The background is handmade metallic paper mounted on a piece of MDF board.

  10"x8"x1.5" Mixed Media on Panel/SOLD

Mixed Media Equine Painting,Horse Art "Best of Friends" by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

I used a palette knife to apply texture to the canvas before layering on several washes of acrylic color on this painting.  The texture and depth of color add to the appeal of this work.

Mixed Media Wall Sculpture "C3" by Colorado Mixed Media Artist Carol Nelson

This sculpture is made up of found objects that have been painted with iron paint, which is then rusted.  Looking carefully, you can see an old bottle cap (which was already rusted), a small canvas, a spool that held ribbon, some leftover tile from my bathroom project, the top of a spice bottle, part of a light fixture, and a fluted nut.

I love turning trash into art, and working three dimensional.  This "combination"  can hang on a wall or be displayed on a small easel.

Companion of Diana, 9040, painting of marble sculpture

I now know that I have no interest in painting marble sculptures. This was the challenge painting for the blog, Different Strokes from Different Folks. Karin Jurick, manager of the blog, was in a truly diabolical mode when she presented the group with this photo to work from.

While is was a good exercise in painting the anatomy of the sculpture, I hated portraying the marble and being confined to shades of black, white, gray, with a touch of prussian blue and raw sienna. I struggle with painting fabric, especially when it's made from marble! For purchase information on this painting, click here for my website.
