Rose Quartz, 24x24 acrylic geologic abstract

Another in my geologic abstract series, this painting has lots of texture and silver metal leaf. It features bronze, quinacridone crimson, burnt umber, silver and black acrylic paints. It reminded me of rose quartz, a rare mineral which, supposedly, promotes feelings of self worth.

If I had cherry cabinets, stainless appliances, and dark granite, I would want this for my kitchen. Oh, I've been watching too much Home & Garden television.

Follow the Sun, 12x24 oil

I call these flowers daisies, but I think there may be another name for them. They are so cheerful. They exhibit phototropism (I remember SOME of my botany) by following the movement of the sun. This is one of two paintings on the subject. See my website for the other.

Mountain Time Zone, 17x17 mixed media

I usually paint on canvas or panel, but for the Rocky Mountain Watermedia Exhibition, works must be on paper. This collage piece is going to be one of my entries this year. I love the colors and texture. It also has gold leaf accents.

Fruit and Silver, 11x14 oil

Thrift stores can be a great resource for still life materials. This silver sugar bowl looked terrible when I picked it up for $4. A little silver polish did wonders. Painting reflective surfaces is challenging and fun.

I couldn't come up with a more imaginative title than Fruit and Silver. It's 11x14, oil.

It's All About the Beans

My artist group was showing in a coffee shop. The owner of the shop requested that the paintings have a theme of "coffee." Since I have a mug collection of coffee mugs I've purchased all over the world, I had trouble deciding which of my 50+ mugs to feature in my painting. As I was grinding the beans for the morning pot, the sun was shining on those dark French roast beauties, and, of course, I realized its all about the beans!

Workshop on April 21,2007
