Geologic Abstract Painting, “FISSURED HARMONY" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson
"Fissured Harmony" captures the striking formations found in nature through a 20x16” acrylic piece. It showcases rock forms with intricate fissures, combining delicate details with bold structures. The artwork translates the beauty of the Earth's crust into an engaging visual experience, with each fissure meticulously rendered.
Like most of Carol’s geological abstracts, this piece turns natural complexity into accessible art. The acrylic medium enhances texture and depth, making the scene dynamic. "Fissured Harmony" blends artistic interpretation with natural realism, reflecting the timeless beauty of rock formations and showcasing the artist's unique style and appreciation for Earth's wonders. Perfect for those who love both nature and abstract art.

Acrylic Geologic Abstract Painting "Turquoise Ridge" by Carol Nelson Fine Art
 |
| Turquoise Ridge |
This is a demo I did in my recent Dallas workshop. As often happens, when I get home from the workshop, I have time to take a more critical look at the painting, and make adjustments if necessary.
This one needed color and value adjustments. The composition was set in stone, as it were, because of the textured sculpted areas.

Mixed Media Geologic Abstract Painting "Arroyo" by Carol Nelson Fine Art
This painting is a large (48x36 inch) triptych on three wood panels, each measuring 48x12 inches. I added a LOT of texture, including gritty modeling compound, rocks, and glass blobs.
The most exciting thing about this painting is hardly even visible in a photo. The area around the rocks has a pouring of epoxy resin resembling water.

Abstracted Landscape, "Grand Canyon 4", acrylic painting © Carol Nelson Fine Art
 |
| "Grand Canyon 3" |

| "Grand Canyon 4" These two paintings were purchased by a petroleum investment company in Colorado. They purchased the top one, a 48x24 acrylic on canvas, and then commissioned me to do a similarly themed painting in a 24x36 format. |
"Wood Rock" mixed media geologic abstract painting © Carol Nelson Fine Art
 |
| "Wood Rock" 36x24 mixed media |
This painting was based on a piece of petrified wood I found in a gem and mineral store in Taos.
The wood/stone was polished on one side, but the other side, which was rough, was the one I chose to paint.
I added more "stones" in the center crevice. Those "stones" are actually pieces of shells and broken auto glass.
It was a lot
of fun to paint a geologic abstract with the model, with it's amazing
subtle color variations, sitting right in front of me.
