It gets so busy this time of year. I use this set of dishes for most of our special occasion dinners.

The style is called "Van Gogh". There are other styles patterned after different impressionist painters and their palettes. I think it's appropriate that my china be after Van Gogh.

This set belonged to my Mother, who received it as a wedding present 78 years ago. I have always loved the intense red of the glass.

Titanic Demitasse Cup, 7x7 oil

This weekend we went to the Denver Museum of Nature & Science to see the Titanic Exhibition and the IMAX film, Ghosts of the Abyss. It was really awesome. Most of the small artifacts were in glass cases, but there was one gigantic piece of the actual hull. Interesting too, was the cost of the voyage in today's dollars: the most expensive suite, today, would cost $78,000, while the least costly steerage ticket would cost about $600.
The first class passengers were used to being treated like royalty. The furnishings were of the highest quality and their every wish was granted. In the gift shop, I couldn't resist this replica of a first class demitasse cup and saucer.

Cream & Sugar, 5.5x75 oil, red glass dishes

This was first posted in early March before I had joined Daily Painters group. This cream and sugar bowls were a wedding present to my mother, so I grew up with them. They are just as vibrant today. Love that red.

Still Life Studies of My Stuff: Cups
These cups match the Creamer and Sugar Bowl I did earlier. If I keep painting these dishes I'll soon have a whole place setting.I found some neat square frames that go well with these 6x6 panels. The frames had a mat and glass, which I threw away, since the oil panels do not need to be matted under glass. That left a one half inch space between the panel and the frame which creates a neat shadow box effect.

This is the creamer and sugar bowl of my "good" china. This pattern of china had several variations of color based on Impressionist painters. I chose the Van Gogh colors selection and I just love it.

I like the bold composition of this painting and the perspective of the viewer being straight on as opposed to looking at the objects from above.
