This mixed media abstract is part of a series I'm doing with no preset expectations. I'm using paint and mixed media papers for an intuitive painting experience. This is what artists, particularly abstract artist, do when they are experimenting and letting things flow and develop on their own. Some experiments are winners, others not so much! I like this one. It's ready to frame in a standard 12x12 frame.

"Boulder Field", geologic abstract painting © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Both of these geologic abstracts feature the same color palette.  It is not natural for me to paint in these soft colors, so it is a good exercise to do so.  Boulder Field is a collage with many different papers, heavy. body and fluid acrylics on a canvas board.  Chalk Cliff is painted with fluid acrylics on watercolor paper, and mounted on a cradled wood panel.

This is so different for me.  It is another attempt at oil and cold wax as my medium.  I also added some collage papers.  The black squiggles are actually monoprints on deli paper that was added to the painted surface using cold wax as the adhesive.  The deli paper seems to disappear because it's so translucent.

If you have a painting that you want to TRY adding asemic writing to without actually doing it to the painting, this is a good practice.  I love asemic writing because it is UNIQUE TO THE ARTIST.

This is another in my Geologic Abstract series.  I was going for concentrated color on a neutral background.  I think this painting is a good example of that.
