Annual Heart Shaped Valentine Meatloaf

My husband, Morris, loves his meatloaf.  So every Valentine's Day that's what I make him for dinner.  It may not look that appetizing, but he LOVES it. 

I like to decorate it with those puffed hearts on a stick. Looks quite festive. I put them in the meatloaf for the photo, then rinse them off and put them away for another year.

Meat loaf sandwiches the next day are almost a bigger treat.

Heart on the Mend

 

The heart is a metaphor for the human condition.  We describe people as hard hearted, soft hearted, big hearted.  Their heart can be broken, brave, bursting, full, heavy, light, open, locked, and on and on.  

I am seeing Valentine's Day items in the stores, so I thought I would try doing some mixed media approaches to depicting this holiday all about love.  

Valentine's Day is mostly for lovers, but who hasn't had their heart broken at some time?  I actually thought of this composition while listening to Christina Perry's Jar of Hearts - a GREAT song.

This 6x6 heart is on a masonite panel and is textured with crackle paste.  The heart has cracks in it, but has red sateen ribbons holding it together - on the mend I'm thinking.

Valentine Meatloaf

How can one be artistic when the medium is meatloaf? My husband's favorite meal is my home made meatloaf, so on Valentine's Day, I formed it into a heart shape.
This year I found some hearts on a stick at the Dollar Store. I thought they accented the meatloaf nicely. Since they were made in China, I only put them in only long enough to take a couple pictures - we may get lead or melamine, or some other poisoning. LOL

Sweethearts, 01009, bears in love

Tomorrow the theme on Daily Painters (http://www.dailypainters.com/) is Valentines Day. We are to post our interpretation of the day of love. I thought of heart shaped candy boxes, roses, stuffed animals and all the usual valentines expressions of love. I usually make a heart shaped meatloaf for my husband and he's happy as "a pig in slop," but didn't think that would make a good painting. LOL

This little figurine of two cuddly bears was made in China. I thought it somehow just that I painted it because the Chinese copy painters are painting our works all the time.
