Abstract Mixed Media Art Painting "Red Beneath 180116" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

I thought of calling this painting "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat", but that name was already taken. When you see the patchwork of all the different colors, patterns, and textures, it reminds you of that musical namesake.

 This painting was created using my "sandwich technique" as seen on my teaching video, New Approaches to Mixed Media Materials. I've been using that technique for a year and a half, and it still amazes me how easy it is to create vibrant, interesting abstract pieces with "sandwiches."

Abstract Mixed Media Art Painting, Geological Art "Midas Touch" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

This painting has gold metal leaf and metallic paint on a textured surface.  The top section is micaceous iron oxide.  The majority of the "T" shape is metal leaf, which is hard to photograph to show the shiny surface.

This painting comes with a simple black wood frame and arrives ready to hang.

Abstract Mixed Media Art Painting "Kimono" by Colorado Mixed Media Abstract Artist Carol Nelson

This is a painting I did as a demo in my recent workshop in Raleigh, NC.  As with many of my demos, I did not have time to complete it in class, so I finished it at home.

This painting has some printed paper, Asian newspaper, origami foil, and some fluid acrylic squiggles that were done on a sheet of plastic.  After the squiggles dry overnight, they can be handled and placed where needed in a painting.

My apologies to anyone who can read Korean script.  I have no idea what this little newspaper snippet says - it could be an ad for something embarrassing - or, maybe not.  I just like the look of the characters.
