Summer Newsletter 1 - from Carol Nelson Fine Art

Hello Art Lovers and Subscribers!

It seems like the pace of my art doin's always picks up in the summer.
I just got back from giving a four day workshop in Texas, where 18 fabulous
artists were eager to learn some of my latest experimental techniques.

Here's some of the demo pieces I did for the group:

  "Gemstone 5"

This one was showing them how to do effortless abstracts using plastic
foam plates.

  "Sweet Poppies"

This painting used altered papers, including, in this case, text from a paperback
book.
Hopefully, I didn't inadvertantly get a page with a steamy sex scene - or maybe
that would add something to the painting.  And yes, I HAVE done that before,
when, using newspaper print, I accidentally got an ad for erectile dysfunction
into my painting!
LOL

SUMMER ART MARKET

For you folks in the Denver area, this weekend you can visit me at my
booth, #169,  3rd and Grant, THIS WEEKEND. Yes, it is THIS WEEKEND.

I will have lots of new paintings to show you THIS WEEKEND.

OURAY COUNTY WORKSHOP

My introductory 2 day workshop on Metals and Mixed Media still has space
available on July 13-14 in Ridgway, CO.  This is a great workshop to familurize
yourself with mixed media painting.  Everything's included - just bring your
paints and brushes.  You can read more about it on my website,
but the link is broken, so if you want more info, please email me directly.
(There is no "e" in Ridgway.)

That's all for now.  I've got to get busy framing some of my latest work for
the show this weekend.
Spread the word about the Summer Art Market, and feel free to share this
newsletter with other art fanatics you may know.

"MESABI"
Mesabi detail

If this looks familiar, it's because it is a revision of a painting I did last year.  I walked by it the other day, and knew what I had to do to spiff it up a bit.

I love many of the details about this piece.  It is very textural, and, with the three separate components, is an interesting composition.

For more information, click here to go to my website.
This painting will be at the SUMMER ART MARKET this weekend.  Look for me in booth 169.

Granbury Workshop and SUMMER ART MARKET

Here's a FEW examples of the wonderful work produced by the fabulous group at my workshop in Granbury Texas, last week.  To see more of their work, I uploaded 36 photos on my facebook page.

I have barely unpacked from Texas before I have to get lots of paintings framed and ready to go for the SUMMER ART MARKET this coming weekend in Denver.

This is my favorite outdoor show every year.  Find me in booth 169, on Grant St, just north of 3rd.

Bird Series - Owl 1, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Jeepers, creepers, where'd you get those peepers? I think that's a lyric from a long-ago song. I love painting owls and cats just because of their eyes. This painting from my bird series is painted on a 4x4 wood Baroque Artist Panel in oil. For purchase information, please see my website.

==================================================

If you're planning on visiting the SUMMER ART MARKET this coming weekend in Denver, don't pay any attention to the weather forecast. I don't care that it says it will be cold and rainy. WE WILL BE THERE WITH OUR BEST ART ON DISPLAY! Look for me in booth 102 if I don't get washed away. The streets where our booths are set up have deep gutters and if it's raining hard, there will a river running through my tent. See my website under "Events" for full details on this wonderful show.

Summer Art Market

This is probably my last post until Monday, 6/15. This weekend I'm in another outdoor art show in Denver, sponsored by the Art Students League of Denver.

Weather in Colorado in June is often very unpredictable. A couple days ago a tornado did millions of dollars in damage about 5 miles from my house. Today the tornado sirens went off again. There wasn't a tornado, but about 10 miles from my house they got 2 inches of hail. All we got was rain.

I'm worried about getting blown away or flattened by hail this weekend. Keep your fingers crossed for me. Ah, the joys of the outdoor art festival circuit.

Full report on Monday (if I'm still here.)
