The Painted Violin

The Painted Violin is a fundraiser for the Denver Youth Orchestra.  Each year, chosen artists are given a "retired" violin to paint/decorate as they wish.  This is my version that I am finally able to share with everyone.

The grand unveiling of this season's collection was last Friday at Gallery 1261 in Denver, CO.  The violins then travel to different galleries each month until next spring, when they are auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Here I am with my violin, which is called "September Song."  I painted the violin and then attached painted leaves cut out of watercolor paper.  On the back, I painted a fall scene with golden aspen leaves.
I hope it can sell for a generous amount to benefit the Denver Youth Orchestra.

The aspens are turning golden in the high country right now - always a gorgeous time in Colorado.  Here's a shot I took last weekend while showing all my visiting cousins the beautiful colors.

  1. Awesome violin and concept Carol!! I did the same thing (called Art Strings) here in NJ in 2004. How many violins are there?

  2. Very nice job on the fundraiser violin! That was very nice of you to do for the Youth Orchestra. I am sure it will sell for a generous amount for the kids. I really miss the mountains! We lived in Lakewood when we were newlyweds 25 years ago! I fondly remember going to Red Rocks and we took a trip to see The Garden of the Gods, which played a part in a recent abstract drawing I did... we have Lake Michigan here, but I sure do miss the mountains! Your photo of the aspens is beautiful!

  6. What an amazing concept! It is beautiful. I thought the leaves were real until I read that they are actually paper. Stunning painting on the back of the violin.

After looking at your work I just want to get out there and try to create something beautiful too. Thanks for the inspiration.
