This is the latest torture installment on Karin Jurick's blog, Different Strokes from Different Folks.blogspot.com. Painting this was like being waterboarded. I just wanted it to be over. The dramatic lighting from an overhead skylight and the extreme foreshortening of the figures made for 4 hours of hell. Check out the blog, and see how nearly everyone struggled with this one - although several are excellent.

As you can see from the reference photo, I took a few liberties with the colors. The people in the photo don't even look real to me. To purchase this 6x6 oil painting for $100, please email me at carolnelsonfineart@comcast.net

    Carol, I don't often laugh out loud when reading blogs but your comments about the "torture installment"and"4 hours of hell" tickled me.
    Regardless of what it took to pull this out of you, it is a great interpretation. Your color choices are wonderful and your figures are very believable.

    I agree with Dana, love your colors and the foreshortening of the figures are perfect. Sorry your had to go through so much pain though.

    Still laughing at your description of this assignment and couldn't agree more. NEXT!

    You did such a great job on this despite the torture. You aced the shadows and foreshadows and I love the way you exaggerated the color palette. I think it really added to the composition.

    Thanks all. The wonderful thing about the DSFDF challenges is that it forces us to paint outside our comfort zone.
    I would NEVER have attempted this painting on my own.
