"SEDONA"

This is a demo piece I did in the Granbury, Texas, workshop last week.  It has embedded tyvek, glazed foil, and heavy texture.  I haven't painted the backing board that it will be mounted on yet, but will get a picture of that in the next few days.

I have a big show coming up in two weeks, so have to really get busy painting for that.  If you're in Denver June 11 and 12, be sure to stop by the Summer Art Market at the  Art Students League of Denver, 2nd and Grant.

GRANBURY WORKSHOP

This is the group of hearty souls who took my workshop in Granbury, Texas, sponsored by the Lake Granbury Art Association.  They were all very willing to step out of their comfort zone and try the new methods and materials I brought to the workshop.  As you can see below, they produced some incredible mixed media pieces.

I wish I had taken more time in photographing each piece individually.  There are many more I didn't even get to photograph.
The ubiquitous Nancy Standlee was taking her second workshop from me.  She seems to be everywhere, often taking workshops back to back. Reading Nancy's blog is the next best thing to actually being in attendance at a workshop because of her amusing and informative accounts.  Click here to read Nancy's post about the Granbury workshop.

HAVING A BLAST!

I have been in Granbury, TX all week giving a workshop on metals and mixed media. We have an experienced group of artists that are a delight to show my methods and materials. I can't wait to post pictures of some of their fantastic work as soon as I get back home to my computer.

Visit to Santa Fe

I'm in Albuquerque for my daughter's wedding. The weather is perfect here. Today we had enough time to drive up to Santa Fe and look around on Canyon road. Santa Fe is the 2nd largest art market in the US.
To say I was blown away is an understatement. With over 200 galleries, I could only scratch the surface. I saw so many incredible works of art.
It made me want to get back to my studio ASAP.

Had to throw in a couple of pics from the wedding - it was perfect.

"LADY G"

I named this painting LADY G after Lady Gaga.  It doesn't really look like her, but the flamboyant hair and outfit looks just like something you would see Lady Gaga wearing.

The painting has the everything plus the kitchen sink.  Many different mediums, including gel "skins" for the facial features, and lots of texture.

More yupo experiments.  The background is obviously yupo with gloss medium swirls.  I was playing around with it using some water color paper painted in bright colors.

Viola! A little village appeared.  For more information on this painting, click here to go to my website.

"FOREST PRIMEVAL"

This is another painting resulting from my experiments with yupo paper.  Here the background is resist of gloss medium on yupo.  The gloss medium makes the fluid acrylic paint do funny things.  I love the unpredictability of it.

The painting has a beige linen mat and wood frame with glass.  Outside dimensions of the frame are 15x15 inches.  For purchase information, click here to go to my website.

"CAROL 2011"

I took this picture of myself holding the camera at arm's length.  The Daily Paintworks challenge this week is to paint a quirky, unusual self portrait.  I wanted to do one that was off center, cropped and very colorful.

I think I cropped it too close on the right side by cutting my eyeball in half.  Oh well, it is what it is.  I suppose some day when I'm gone, my kids will think this is great.

My husband said I took off 20 years - NOT TRUE!  I have a pair of cool glasses.  They are rimless, but are difficult to paint.  They're there and yet,not there.  I ran into those a couple times last year during my 100 portrait project.

I also think I used too much purple (can there be such a thing?) but I didn't want to redo the whole area around my eyes.  The lenses in my glasses are actually purple on the EDGE, and that doesn't show well in the photo.  They have to be viewed from just the right angle to see the purple edging.

This was a fun challenge.  See dailypaintworks.com for more self portraits.
