The texture is gel medium applied before the paint. Also, in this case, I painted the horse brown, then white. Before the white dried completely, I spritzed with alcohol - that's the circles you see where the color beneath shows through.

Love the texture and colors in 'Blue Roan'! Quite a beauty, with hints of a magical fairytale world coming through with the interesting paint technique.
