100 OIL PORTRAITS IN 100 DAYS - Dori, 49/100, © Carol Nelson Fine Art

Day 49

Another great reference photo with perfect lighting - thank you Dori! Here I go with the purple - orange combo again. I just really like those colors together. I struggled with curly hair in the beginning of this project, but now I like painting it.

I'd like to thank all of you for your kind comments and wishes about Morris' upcoming surgery. Kidney disease for him has been a slow, insidious process over the past three years. He has not had any pain to speak of - the main indication has been decreased renal function blood tests. His nephrologist said that over half her patient population has resulted from heavy use of NSAIDs - nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as Alieve, Advil, aspirin, etc.
Morris took lots of Alieve for years because of gout. These are all over-the-counter drugs and we tend to think of them as safe.

Your work amazes me and how you are working so hard to do one hundred paintings. Keep it going. Thanks so much for sharing!!

Another great one - the color combo works great (again), the hair is done perfectly (again), the play of light and shadow is fresh and lively (again).
What I really love about this one is how you captured the serenity and intensity at the same time. I can almost hear her thoughts...
All the best for Monday and a swift recovery for both patients.
Tomorrow you're at 50 portraits in 50 days, why not take a few days off an concentrate on your family? - we'd be waiting patiently for when you're back...
All the best from Switzerland,
Regula

Carol...I am so sorry to hear of your husband's dilemna. I've shied away from NSAIDs because of its after affects. Pray all goes well with him and his recovery is complete.

Love your Dori portrait.

Love the way you see color. Lovely painting and, yes, great job on my curly hair. If you think it's hard to paint, imagine living with it. You captured the shadows and moodiness of this photo. Great job.
Like I have said before, your dedication to setting your goal and sticking to it, is inspiring.
