Follow the Sun, still life daisies

Yellow Onions, 00909, onion still life

These onions are actually very attractive. I bought a bag on onions and considered painting them in the bag until I thought about the complexity of such a painting with the mesh of the bag on top of the layers of peel on the onions. I could do it, but I would have to charge $1000 for a little painting.

This painting is on a 6x6 gallery wrap canvas. For more info on this painting, please see my website:

Boston Vacuum Mount, 00809, pencil sharpener still life

This pencil sharpener is ancient. I can't even remember how it came to be in our family. I thought I would honor it's faithful service with a portrait. It can rest now because I bought an electric one.

December Song, 00709, winter landscape

In most landscapes, the sky is the lightest part of the painting. That makes it pretty common to find a light area at the top of the painting. The beauty of painting winter scenes is that the lightest areas are also snow covered so the usual light/dark composition is flipped.

Snow is white, of course, but there is no white snow in this painting. Starting with titanium white, I added touches of cadmium yellow deep, paynes grey, or dioxazine purple to get the different variations of snow color.

I really like these 12x12 landscapes I've been doing (scroll down to see several in Nov and Dec). The trouble is I'm hoarding them. I should take them to one of my galleries, but I can't part with them just yet. They're my children, you know. I have to gaze at them a while longer. My children will eventually be sold.

Feed Me, 00609, baby birds in nest

You have to know where the nest is to see a scene like this. These baby robins keep the parents very busy.

This 6x6 original oil painting is on gallery wrap canvas with the sides painted. For purchase information, please see my website by clicking here. SOLD

Split Personality, 00509, pear still life

I am having a wonderful birthday day. I'm painting all day, then playing tennis tonight and going out to dinner with girl friends. My husband and I and some friends went out last night. He was so sweet to give up watching the AFC playoff game to go to dinner (although there was a little grumbling.)
This painting is a pear cut in half shortly before it was eaten. These pears are really delish.
Once again, I put it on a reflective surface.

Divergent Opinions, 00409, pear still life

I'm amusing myself with the titles of my pear paintings. These three seem to have their backs to one another after a heated argument. Three more members of my giant Costco bag of pears.

Lean on Me, 00309, pear still life

I haven't done any still lifes in a long while. I bought a bag of pears at Costco - so I have a TON of pears. I put them on a bronze charger plate so I could see their reflection. This is my second ever pear painting. I'm not sure what it is about pears that makes them so PAINTABLE.
Maybe it's that they seem to RELATE to one another.
I have a couple more pear paintings in the planning stage.
This original oil is on 5x7 gallery wrap canvas. For purchase information, please see my website:

Mo in Camouflage Bed

My dog, Mo, is a black and white shih tzu. When he gets in his black and white camouflage bed, he's hard to see. Every morning, after breakfast, he gets in his bed under the desk in the kitchen. In the winter, the sun shines right on his bed, for a cozy snooze.

Self Portrait

My online gallery, http://www.dailypainters.com/, is featuring self portraits by it's members tomorrow. I did this portrait of myself a couple months ago for a self portrait competition. I painted it on nine mini canvases (4x4 each). I enjoy rearranging the canvases for a Picasso-like effect.

Acrylics and Metals Workshop

On Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, I will be presenting a workshop on working with metals in abstract painting. The workshop is sponsored by Blue Sun Productions, www.bluesunproductions.net.

Incorporating metals into abstract works makes a dramatic impact. I will discuss various metals, support surfaces, methods of attatchment, design and composition. Each class participant will work with a variety of metals and supports. Participants will bring their own acrylic paints and brushes, but all other materials will be supplied.

For information about this workshop, please see Blue Sun Productions' website and click on EVENTS.

Fifteen Poppies, 00109

My first painting of the new year! More poppies. In case you're counting, some of them are on the edges of the painting, so you don't see all 15 of them from the front. I'm not even counting the seven buds.

I wonder how many poppies I've painted - it must be in the hundreds. They are my absolute favorite. This original oil painting is 24x18 on gallery wrap canvas. For purchase information, please see my website:
