Thirteen Poppies, 08908

Perhaps I've had enough of winter already. I was compelled to paint these poppies. It is a variation of my logo painting that is on the opening page of my website, my business cards, address labels, and the top banner of this blog.

Of course, my love of orange and yellow is very evident. I was trying for a painterly, impressionist type approach on this painting.

Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah

I think I'm finally ready for Christmas. I just finished a two hour wrapping marathon and it looks bountiful under the tree. I will not be at the easel for a couple days. I have a new painting sketched out, however, so should get to work on it this weekend.
This is the Christmas card I sent out this year. It features my husband's fauvist portrait and my mixed up portrait done on 9 mini canvases. I usually put one of my paintings on our cards, but this year it was fun putting our pictures on them.
I wish all my blog readers the joys of the season.

Cream and Sugar 2

It gets so busy this time of year. I use this set of dishes for most of our special occasion dinners.
The style is called "Van Gogh". There are other styles patterned after different impressionist painters and their palettes. I think it's appropriate that my china be after Van Gogh.
This painting comes with a black shadow box type frame.

Poinsettias

Poinsettias are associated with the Christmas holiday, even though they last much longer than December. I have actually kept them for over a year. I have a solarium in my home where I keep a lot of my plants over the winter. In the summer, many of them go out on the patio.
I found that my held-over poinsettias don't bloom naturally at Christmas, but rather a few months later.
This original oil painting measures 15x30 and comes in a black "canvas floater" frame.

Sunset Beach, 08808

Perhaps it's the fact that it's snowing and 8 degrees outside that makes me paint these beach paintings. I think this painting captures that irresistable scene of the sun dipping low into the sea. I wouldn't mind standing on that beach right now. This original oil painting is on 12x12 inch gallery wrap canvas.

Self Portrait Calendar

I've certainly never thought of myself as a cover girl, but here I am on the cover of the Evergreen Arts 2009 calendar. The cover shot is of my portrait on nine mini canvases (4x4 each). The cool thing about this portrait is that I can rearrange the canvases for a mixed up version of myself.

Each month of this calendar features a different artist's self portrait - and there are some unusual interpretations of the self portrait. If you would like to purchase a calendar for $15 plus postage, please visit http://www.evergreenarts.org/.

The Center for the Arts Evergreen (Colorado) features art-related events, classes, exhibitions and lectures.

My other exciting news is that an article I submitted about painting on multiple canvases is featured on Empty Easel today. Take a look:

Surf, 08708

You KNOW I didn't look out my window for this view since I live over 1000 miles from the nearest coast. This painting was so fun for me to do because most of my landscapes are just that - LANDscapes full of mountains. I tried to capture the power and beauty of a single wave. I can almost hear the roar.
