5280, 17x12 mixed media collage

I live in the Denver area where a lot is made of our elevation of 5,280 ft (1 mile)above sea level. This collage celebrates that elevation and suggests a cityscape with mountains in the background. This is another entry for the Rocky Mountian National Watermedia Exhibition.

Chinese Takeout, 6x6 oil

I found these little cardboard boxes shaped like Chinese food containters at Michael's (art & craft store). It took me 5 minutes to decide what color to buy. I love the abstract design they create in a group.

Mountain Time Zone, 17x17 mixed media

I usually paint on canvas or panel, but for the Rocky Mountain Watermedia Exhibition, works must be on paper. This collage piece is going to be one of my entries this year. I love the colors and texture. It also has gold leaf accents.

Robin, 6x6 oil

In Colorado, a rare robin will stay around all year, if it's a mild winter. Typically, though, we see the first brave soul some time in March. Colorado weather in March can have cold, snowy days, as well as milder, sunny days. I always feel sorry for the hardy few who seem to survive on old dried up virginia creeper berries and puny russian olives. By April, things are starting to green up and the robins, like this guy, are scouting for nesting areas.

Sprouting, 5x7 oil

In the cold, dark garage, life begins in the onion bag.

Big Mac, 12x12 oil

Another miniature hereford from the National Western Stock Show. This painting available at Spirits in the Wind Gallery in Golden, CO. www.spiritsinthewindgallery.com

Baby Face, 12x12 oil

This guy is a miniature hereford. They only get to about 1200 lbs, much smaller than their full size cousins. I photographed him at the National Western Stock Show during it's run here in Denver.

The Young Gardener - Final

I did the background twice. Since the subject is so vibrant and detailed, I finally decided that the background had to be neutral and simple. SOLD

The Young Gardener - day 2

The fabric was tedious, but fun to paint.

The Young Gardener - day 1

I cannot resist painting these Peruvian children from the photos taken by Bruce Norman (see earlier post, La Nina). They have such expressive faces and colorful clothing. Maybe it's the hats. All children look good in hats. I'm showing this painting as it is painted. I spent most of Saturday afternoon getting the face done.

Orange 2, 5x6 oil

Painting these orange slices was much more complicated than I initially thought. When you really look at them, there's so much going on in each slice. To be an artist painting in a realistic style, you have to really see what you're looking at.

Orange 1, 5x6 oil

I peeled this orange and set it up in my photo corner (in the garage). I like the way the light shines on and through the peel.

La Nina, 11x14 oil

The last art show I was in had spotty attendance, so sales were not very good. One really good thing came out of it, however. I was looking at photographer Bruce Norman's (www.brucenorman.com) album and saw some pictures he took that, to me, were begging to be painted. This little girl was photographed on Bruce's trip to Peru. She is so adorable. It took me a long time to complete this painting, with all the shading on the face and the colorful hat. I hope I captured that sweet, innocent face.

Red Onions, 6x6 oil

Fortunately for me, my kitchen faces east, so I get that great, strong early morning light for my still life paintings. These onions just about painted themselves. 6x6 oil.

Treat Time, 5x7 oil

A couple wanted me to paint their horses. To get them all together so I could get a group photo, treats were offered.
