I feel like I've finally given in to the siren call of pears. EVERY artist who does still lifes eventually paints pears. I've resisted yellow pears and green pears, but when I saw these red beauties at the market, I couldn't resist. What is it about pears anyway? Maybe it's their voluptuous feminine shape. The other thing I wanted to try with this painting was starting with a black background. I must say that was really fun. The iceland poppies I just finished were also started on black.
